Jeanette Howard is a Christian author and public speaker.
She has a passion for discipleship.
When she felt the call of Christ in the mid-1980s, Jeanette knew that she would have to give up the only life she had ever known: she identified and lived as a homosexual woman.
This was no easy matter as resources for help and encouragement at the time were few. Yet she was determined to live a life faithful to biblical truth: all sexual activity was to be confined within heterosexual marriage.
Jeanette walked away from the security of a loving partner and the camaraderie of like-minded friends and struggled to engage with the ‘heterosexual’ Christian world. As a new Christian fear of rejection ensured that she kept silent about her past life and ongoing desires and temptations. With what can only be described as grim determination, Jeanette continued to throw herself solely into her relationship with the Lord and, over time, she grew to love and find solace and hope in God’s Word.
God-ordained incidences resulted in Jeanette relocating to California 1988 where she attended a residential programme specifically created for Christian men and women who experienced same-sex attraction. Here Jeanette was able to begin to address a number of personal issues including gender dysphoria, fear-based living, and familial relationship problems.
Each was brought into the light and truth of the Bible and Jeanette was able, increasingly, to explore the truth of what it is to be ‘in Christ.’ During this period she began to write and teach others about she had learned.
Over the subsequent thirty years Jeanette has continued to grow and mature in the Lord and teach others. She remains a single woman and has not had children.
It has not been an easy sojourn, but Jeanette is in full agreement with the statement of the enthusiastic, and later martyred, missionary Jim Elliott. In his diary entry of October 28th 1949 the young man wrote:
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”
Discipleship is not for the fainthearted. It is no easy task to stand against the tide of the increasing opposition to sexual fidelity – now from within the church as well as society at large. But Jeanette delights in her relationship with the Lord and treasures the intimacy and security she has found in Him.
Jeanette is invited to teach at conferences, weekend retreats, and individual churches not only in the United Kingdom but all over the world. There is a desire from other Christians, both men and women, to learn from her discipleship experience with same-sex attraction and apply those principles to their own lives.
